Synopsis

Gaza, December 2023: a disturbing photograph circulating on social media prompts the author to ask what it even means to be an outside observer of what is happening. A short, almost diary-like work that captures the moment of colliding with an image that can be neither explained nor forgotten.

About the Director

Miranda Pennell is a London-based filmmaker who often draws on images from British colonial archives to reflect on the present. She received an MA in visual anthropology from Goldsmiths College in 2010 and completed her PhD at the University of Westminster in 2016. Her films have screened at Viennale, Rotterdam, New York, Berlin and FID Marseille.
