Between Delicate and Violent

Synopsis

An experimental documentary that treats hands as sites of memory, capable of storing and passing on recollections that never made it into the family album. Through brushstrokes and embroidery stitches, the author searches for a connection between her own past and broader histories of domestic violence and intergenerational trauma.

About the Director

Şirin Bahar Demirel is a filmmaker and visual artist working with moving image and collage, exploring memory, home, and the nuclear family as a microcosm of patriarchal structures. She studied cinema at Galatasaray University, Turkey, and earned an MA in cultural project management at Paul Valéry University, France. Her first documentary, "Kadınlar Ülkesi," won Best National Documentary at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.
