A Spider's Lunch & Other Sounds

Synopsis

In Port Talbot, a town undergoing severe economic change, men set out on walks with sound-amplifying equipment, exploring the surrounding landscape through listening. Conversations about personal experience, mental health and shifting identity intertwine with the sounds of forest and industrial town, turning a walk into an investigation of memory and of the very act of listening.

About the Director

Liberty Smith is a filmmaker based in Bristol, UK. She previously made documentaries for UK television before moving into independent filmmaking. Her film "What Are You Looking At?" screened at international festivals and became a Vimeo Staff Pick / Short of the Week; her next film, "My Exploding House," won an award at the Ann Arbor Film Festival (USA). In 2024 her concept won the "Listening Pitch" competition from Audible and Aesthetica. Her practice is highly collaborative, exploring the boundaries of documentary form.
